tyler-hawnOro Station, ON – Tyler Hawn returned to the OSCAAR Super Late Model tour at Sunset Speedway Sunday night with a ninth-place finish at the Innisfil, Ont. speedway.

Hawn’s successful return to the top-ten followed a blown motor at Sauble Speedway two weeks prior.

The team originally expected to miss the series trip to Flamboro Speedway due to the motor problems, but the event was cancelled due to a power outage. Hawn was able to maintain his sixth-place spot in the championship standings as a result.

Hawn started 12th in the 21-car field for the 50-lap main event at Sunset. Hawn moved up to the 8th spot by lap 17, and battled with Derrick Tiemersma and Wayne Isaacs for the spot.

Following a caution on lap 22, the restart brought the field back together and pitted Hawn and Isaacs together again.

The close quarters racing led to contact between the two drivers down the backstretch. Hawn would get the worst the contact as he was sent spinning towards the inside wall, but avoided contact.

Forced to restart at the tail of the field, Hawn began his charge back to the front. However, after contact on lap 44 in turn four, Hawn lost power on the front stretch to bring out a caution.

The Oro Station, Ont.-based driver was able to get the car back under power, to return to the field for the final 6 laps.

Five more caution periods were needed to complete the race with several drivers involved, allowing Hawn a final opportunity to move in to the top-ten.tyler-hawn

Hawn did not waste the opportunity, and was able to cross the checkered flags in ninth.

The OSCAAR Super Late Model tour shifts to Peterborough Speedway on Saturday August 3 for the first of three trips to the Eastern Ontario oval. The first green flag of the night is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm and fans will be able to enjoy a pre-race corn roast.
