Hawn Motorsports attended Spring Velocity at Sunset Speedway this past weekend. This marked event #2 on our busy season schedule.

In traditional fashion Sunset’s Pit area was jammed. With nearly a hundred cars in attendance including APC Series Pro Late Models, OSCAAR Modifieds & Hot Rods, Can-Am Midgets, OSCAAR Pro Sprints and more. The buzz and the excitement surrounding the event was excellent! For many Spring Velocity is their first trip to the track each season. It really is a weekend of “let’s see what happens” for many teams. It adds such an exciting element of unpredictability for the fans and frustrating heart ache for many drivers and teams.

Day One action included our #2 Hot Rod finding victory lane in it’s first heat of the event. After only 5 laps in the first practice session our team knew we had a car very capable of taking home the win, in the Hot Rod feature on Day Two. Tyler Hawn and his #2 found their new “nemesis” in the Hot Rod series in Heat #2. Champions need someone to continually challenge them. The #26 Mustang (gorgeous addition to the series) of Dalen Marten looks to be just that, for Tyler. The #26 will have to learn however, that Tyler Hawn is a gentleman…with the driving ability to end your night should you not remain highly respectful on the track. He will race to win when he must.
Daniel Hawn and his #42 Can-Am Midget made their official debut in the series on Day One of Velocity. Running as high as 5th in a 12-car field, the #42 team had recovered very well from the disappointing result in the season opener at Flamboro. The #42 showed great speed, improved handling and is most definitely a consistent mid pack car. In one’s Rookie Season, it is not typical to have a mid pack car by event #2. This displays the quality of Hawn Motorsports built rides and our dedication to technical growth and improvement.

Saturday evening the United APC Pro Late Model 100 lap race gave the Hawn Motorsports team time to relax and take in our passion. The race was great start to finish. Clean, fast and full of excellent passes, saves and side by side action. Hats off to the APC Pro Late Model series for putting on a great show.

Day two of Velocity……. sucked lol. Mother Nature gave us hope all morning and then with the OSCAAR Mods, Hot Rods and Pro Sprints lined up and ready for their features, she gave it to us. Strong damaging gusts of wind and brief but heavy rains sent teams scurrying for car covers and shelter. I noticed something when this happened. Rub, wreck, fight, curse and talk smack about each other, is the name of the game in racing. But when faced with a common enemy this community comes together quickly and in direct support of each other. Number or name on the door be damned. It was great to see.

We would like to thank everyone who made last weekend possible for our team. Thank you to the crew of the #2 and #42 (Iain Bass, Adam Hagen) for your time and dedication. Thank you to family and friends who visited us in the pits and track side. We love you all.

Thank you to Dan Little Jr. Photography and MACPHOTO for your time and skills. Thank you to Motorhome Escapes Canada for our amazing accommodations. Thank you to The Home Depot Barrie for providing us a Honda 6200W generator to keep us powered up all weekend. And of course, we want to send out a special thank you to all our 2019 Partners. Without your support none of this would be possible. We sincerely appreciate you all!
