Saturday June 29th, 2019 is a date on the Hawn Motorsports calendar that gives us a chance to say thank you to the greatest fans in racing! OSCAAR will have it’s 2019 Fan Appreciation Night at Sunset Speedway this coming Saturday! A full night of nothing but OSCAAR’s Modified, Hot Rod and Pro Sprint racing as well as an amazing opportunity for fans young and old to join our team on the track at intermission. Photo ops, signed merchandise, hero cards, prizes, contests and much more! Hawn Motorsports has created four gift baskets for a FREE raffle to take place during the intermission. Each basket it valued at approximately $75. Make sure you come see Hawn Motorsports on the front straight for your FREE raffle tickets. If you would like to increase your odds of winning, we will be offering an additional ticket for ANY donation made to the Don Hawn Memorial Children’s Fund box that evening. Our team is excited to host our fans on the track up close and personal this coming Saturday and we sincerely hope you come out and pay us a visit and take in some of the best racing in the Province!

The weekend race line-up is as mentioned ALL OSCAAR, which means that Tyler and Dan Hawn will be there in defense of their 2018 Series Championships in the #2 Fox’s Bakery & Deli Hot Rod and #2 Specialized Upholstery & Glass Pro Sprint cars. Dan Hawn will be taking a one race hiatus form the Can-Am Midget series that is scheduled to run at Full Throttle this Saturday. A difficult decision to make considering Dan’s head strong dedication to improving in the Can-Am series every opportunity he can. However, when asked to confirm which car he would run this weekend, his answer to me was simple…” I want to spend the day with my Family, so we are running the Pro Sprint at Sunset “. The Hawn Motorsports team is amped up to have Dan and his #42 crew with us this weekend! Always a great time when the entire team can hang and have some fun!

The weather has held the OSCAAR Pro Sprint series thus far to ZERO heats or features run. So, it is an understatement to say that what transpires at Sunset on Saturday, is more important than usual. The off-season rust has thickened for many Sprint drivers and I know they are all chomping at the bit to finally get some racing in the books this season. It has been reported that a full field of Sprints will be ready to rock this coming weekend! Dan Hawn will no doubt continue his dominance within the series in the crazy fast #2 Specialized Upholstery & Glass sprint car and we can’t wait to put a checkered flag in the hands of Specialized Upholstery & Glass owner Mike Kirk. Who has patiently waited for the first feature of 2019.

The #2 Fox’s Bakery & Deli Hot Rod of Tyler Hawn will compete in it’s 3rd event of the season as the ever-popular series returns to Sunset. Weather has once again reeked some havoc on the series cancelling the feature race at Spring Velocity and barely completing the feature at Jukasa Motor Speedway a few weekends ago. With a 1st place finish and a 2nd place finish in heats at Spring Velocity as well as a 2nd place feature finish at Jukasa, Tyler Hawn once again displays consistency each time he hits the asphalt. He will no doubt be within striking distance of his third series Championship come October at Autumn Colours! But for now, it’s time to focus on some redemption and parking it in victory lane this weekend. The #2 Fox’s Bakery & Deli team will be ready to get it done!

Some teammates and close friends of the Hawn Motorsports crew will be competing in the OSCAAR Modified series this coming weekend. Adam Hagen #00 and Norm Newman #11 of the modified series have been incredible help to our team on and away from the track and we wish them both the very best of luck and look forward to watching them both compete on Saturday evening! It is always extra intense to watch a friend and teammate run.

RIP John Harper

Our team would like to address the news that the OSCAAR community lost one of their own recently. John Harper, driver of the #79 OSCAAR Modified car, also known as “Spyder-Man” drew his last breath this Wednesday evening. A fierce competitor a fan favorite and from what I understand, a great person and a joy to have around the racing community for many years! With a great sense of irony John took his #79 Modified car into victory lane at Jukasa Motor Speedway not but a few weekends ago. It was noted as the biggest win of his entire, lengthy racing career. Nothing like going out on top! He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, and our team wants to send our condolences and positive vibes towards his family at this tough time. May he rest peacefully!

The longer I am involved with racing, the more I discover that the sense of “Family” that teams hold so dear is one of the staple reasons racing is so rich in tradition and community. In no other sport I have been involved with, is there a greater sense of “help thy neighbor” mentality. We may compete against each other week in and week out, but we are always on the same side when it comes to the sport, we all love! It is an excellent environment for folks young and old to learn many valuable lessons in life. I am excited and proud to be involved with a team that displays the community attitude in all that they do on and off-track!

OSCAAR Fan Appreciation Night will no doubt be a huge success. We hope to see you in the stands and then track-side to meet our team! We want to thank Sunset Speedway and OSCAAR for the opportunity to show our fans how much they mean to us all!

If you are not able to make the event, Hawn Motorsports wishes you a Happy & Safe Canada Day weekend!
